The Nelson.
When the sun comes out regardless of whether it's Summer or Winter, us Melburnians will find anywhere we can to sit outside and soak up the rays. If you want the beach, some great cafes and of course bars you can't go past St Kilda and of course The Nelson.
We have a little soft spot for this place which is equally amazing when it's freezing cold outside, giving you an excuse to cuddle up in one of their booths with some great food and rum. You may not know but The Nelson specialises in rum with over 30 available either served neat or in cocktails.
The bar was actually named after a tale about Admiral Nelson who after being killed in the battle of Trafalgar was transported back to England preserved in a cask of rum which the sailors allegedly drank after drilling holes in the bottom of it. We love a good story and this is a ripper.
If you however prefer beer they usually have some Aussie greats on tap including award winning Hop Hog from Feral Brewing Company, Pacific Ale from Stone & Wood Brewing & Draught from Colonial Brewing Co. Margaret River.
With a nautical theme designed by Techne Architecture + Interior Design this bar was also shortlisted for the Australian Interior Design Awards. A perfect place to catch up with friends, pull up some stools at the bench or if you're lucky a table outside and enjoy St Kilda in all its colour and glory. Breathe in the fresh salty air, order some quality liquor from Sasha and her lovely crew and you'll be singing sea shanties in no time.
