When you’re planning a night out it usually includes eating and drinking. Often you start at one place then move to another, but it’s so much better when you can park yourself in one spot and have everything you need.  Royal Saxon is one of those places that seriously has it all. The design by architects Six Degrees is well executed giving the space a modern industrial aesthetic that stillfeels warm and rustic and suits the clientele who are looking for a place that’s casual but stylish at the same time.

The Italian inspired menu has something for everyone, with the focus on serving up food that pleases rather than trying to be different for the sake of it, and you may find yourself spoilt for choice. Royal Saxon has it’s own list of signature cocktails, with seasonal creations to keep things fresh and we love how the wine list is separated not only into varietals but also Locals and Tourists so wine lovers know exactly where to look. There is an extensive draught beer selection and ciders too, with classic Birra Moretti on offer for those wanting to keep things Italian, especially on Tuesday nights when the wood fired pizzas are $10 and the taps are given a damn good workout.

While the venue is separated into various areas including the second level which has been designed for private functions, one of the biggest drawcards is the courtyard which is built around a beautiful big fig tree. Over the warmer months this is the place to congregate and because the venue is open seven days from 12pm, you can pretty much spend the whole day eating, drinking and hanging out. We’ve been coming here for ages and just can’t imagine Richmond without The Sax.

In collaboration with Birra Moretti.
