Boilermaker House - proper noun - definition
a shrine dedicated to matching fine whisky with quality beer to create a taste sensation.
Lucky for us we have exactly this place in the CBD from the team that brought us Eau de Vie Melbourne. Rather than creating a similar venue focused on theatrically crafted cocktails, they have decided to do something new and brilliant, promoting this unique drinking experience to the masses. It may sound strange mixing beer and whisky but if you pair the flavour profiles correctly, one highlights nuances in the other you normally wouldn't get if you sipped them separately. Served on a circle of wood with a complementary morsel of meat or cheese, you have in front of you a beverage put together by a team of highly skilled bartenders.
With over 700 whiskies, 12 rotating craft brews on tap at any one time and great wines as well, you won't go thirsty, and your hunger is taken care of with charcuterie boards made to order laden with freshly sliced meats and cheeses. There are also ploughman's platters, steaks and venison burgers plus vegetarian options too and a whole heap of bar snacks.
Hidden amongst the Greek cake shops and cafes at 209 - 211 Lonsdale Street, walk too quickly and you'll miss it. There's no sign, no fanfare at the entrance, just a big wooden door that leads you into the den of drams that is Boilermaker House.
