Black Rabbit
Three guys with hospitality backgrounds called Lachlan, Adrian and Alexander come together and open a venue in a basement in Queen Street with a venue manager called Mark. They want to create a space that is multi faceted and it needs to operate as a bar, a club and an event space. The decision is made to call it The Black Rabbit.
From the time they opened early in 2016 they have flown under the radar, slowly building a reputation for quality drinks, especially their cocktails, taking the less is more approach so you can see all the spirits available and make a truly informed decision. This isn't a bar that claims to have 50 whiskies or 30 gins, it's more about restraint and having a clean minimal space that's easy on the eye and also on the brain. From Tuesdays to Fridays there's a four hour long Happy Hour, with food options like macaroni & cheese balls, crumbed chicken and chips to partner whatever beverages you choose. Club nights are Thursdays and Saturdays with RnB and Hip Hop bringing in crowds and you can book a booth if you need somewhere to hang out with a bunch of mates.
From the moment you walk down the stairs and past the painting by local artist Steen Jones you know you're in a very Melbourne basement. Divided into specific spaces where you can hide away, this is exactly the kind of place you'd expect to find The Black Rabbit, all warm and cozy underground in its warren, waiting for you to come and play.
