You may think that East and West Berlin no longer exist, but on the second level of Euro House in Corrs Lane, the two parts of a city separated until the wall came down in 1989 are very much alive in the form of Berlin Bar. Here the division between capitalism & communism are celebrated in a truly remarkable way. You enter the bar via West Berlin, charming and opulent with chandeliers, windows edged with gilded picture frames and comfy leather couches and booths. There are keys on the wall to hidden lockers containing rare and interesting bottles for regular patrons and the real sense of a time in history when this was the place that had everything and everything had its place. Move through Checkpoint Charlie to East Berlin and leave your pretensions behind. The ceiling may be draped in camouflage netting and the lighting may be dim, but between the bunk bed, the low tables and the big wooden bench, there's nowhere to hide. Not to worry, as long as the staff can find you to bring you your drinks, that's all that matters.

Beautiful cocktails are prepared here, most with distinctly German names and a selection of imported German beers by the bottle served optionally as boilermakers with matching spirits. Snacks such as the Kaeseplatte, Schnitzelburger, Currywurst or Pommes Frites with Maschinengewehr sauce are also great to soak up the copious amount of alcohol you'll consume here as you move back and forth between both sides of the city.

There's no barbed wire and no wall, permission to enter is only granted upon pressing the bell and waiting for someone to come to the door. As a pair of eyes scan you carefully through a peephole, don't be alarmed, just make sure you have the password ready. In case you're asked, motion to the guard who will be disguised as a bartender and whisper sternly and slowly in their ear "Ich bin ein Berliner".
