Polēpolē / Glamp
Melbourne is a melting pot of so many cultures, filled with people who appreciate fine food and hunger for new and interesting cuisines. Dean and Jeanelle Mariani have done our city a little favour and taken inspiration from their travels within Africa to create Polēpolē Bar in Little Collins Street. With an emphasis on tasty slow cooked ribs and African beers, there's also various DJs playing world beats to heighten the mood. Cocktails have an edge to them too with names such as Do Good Dawa, Mzungu Martini and Hakuna Mai Tai Ta, using African recipes and ingredients to engage your tastebuds. It is also worth mentioning that sales from the African beers and ciders support two worthy causes - YGAP and Women for Women in Africa.
A few months later they decided to open Glamp Cocktail Bar on the second level to give patrons the ability to continue their night in a different environment. Rather than bar hop you can just hop upstairs and hang out in the massive tent filled with couches and stools and peruse a completely different drinks menu which retains the African flavour while you listen to more tunes from one of the bar's other DJs. Nothing is boring here and everything is an experience.
Polēpolē means 'Go Slowly' in Swahili, something we all seem to forget every day as we rush around getting caught up in life's trivialities. This is one place you are expected to block out the craziness and just focus on what's really important - good food and great drinks.
